People at Datel: Aatif Rehman, Developer
Aatif Rehman is a member of Datel’s growing Technical Development department, and has been working at Datel for over seven years.
First, tell us a bit about you and your background.
As a teenager, I had a keen interest in the use of computers and technology not just as a consumer, but an active participant in creating software on the various platforms available at the time. I went on to study Computer Science and Software Engineering at university.
Since I graduated from university I’ve worked exclusively for Sage Business Partners. Over this period I have focused my skills in the area of software development, technical pre-sales, development support, and research and development.
Although I’ve been fortunate enough at Datel to focus on my skills as a developer, in my prior roles for other Sage resellers, I have been involved in all stages of the lifecycle of delivering our customers the functionality, support and ongoing innovation.
How did you find out about Datel?
Having been involved with Sage from the very beginning of my career – so, for all of 19 years now – it’s hard to not hear of Datel. Whilst working for other resellers, I’d often heard it said that “Datel is the Rolls Royce of the Sage Reseller Community”. Datel is a well-oiled machine that is a home to the absolute best of the best in the industry, and gives customers and employees alike an experience that is the envy of the Sage reseller community.
What does a typical day at Datel involve for you?
A typical day at the office for me can involve talking to customers; colleagues in our sales, support, apps and project management departments; and other third parties who may be supplying our customers with products we need to facilitate integration with. There is never a dull moment as there is always a new project about to begin, a go-live that is imminent or a pre-sales question or support call that needs attention.
What is the day-to-day working environment like?
My day to day working environment is one where I’m able to pursue my career to the best of my abilities. Any gaps in my knowledge are quickly filled with a phone call, email or walk over to a colleague.
What do you enjoy most about working at Datel?
The absolute best thing about working at Datel is that I actively look forward to each and every day. Each day brings a new challenge and one that I happily embrace. This, combined with the knowledge that I am part of a company who are the best at what they do in the industry, makes me proud of where I work and whom I work for.
How has your role and department changed since you started and how do you think it might change in the future?
My department has grown in the time that I’ve been here – but, the skills that we need to work with change constantly, and the challenges we face also evolve on a continual basis. I feel supported by my colleagues, the head of my department, and the Directors at Datel to continue to grow and develop in my chosen profession.
