People at Datel: Lucinda Millen, Sage 200 Account Manager

Lucinda Millen is one of Datel’s Account Managers for Sage 200, and has been working at Datel in this growing department for over four years.

First, tell us a bit about you and your background.

Like many people, I left school not really knowing what I wanted to do, so I embarked on a Youth Training Scheme through St Helens College. I completed my starter course in accounting and then found a job at a local company, performing an administrative/accounts assistant role.

It was during my time here that I came across an advertisement to provide admin support at a Sage Line 100 partner, AC Computers. I spent five years at AC and progressed towards an account management role. AC were acquired by TSG, another Sage partner, and I moved across to TSG as a customer-facing account manager.

I have always enjoyed meeting new people, and understanding their use of software to help them operate their business efficiently and effectively.

How did you find out about Datel?

I was always aware of Datel during my time within the Sage channel. Datel have always had a well-respected name and it was always somewhere that I wanted to work.

After leaving TSG I went on to have two children, after which I wanted to get back to work, specifically within the Sage 200 channel. Whilst at TSG two of my colleagues left TSG to move across to Datel, one of whom was particularly instrumental in introducing me to the business; letting me know when an Account Management position became available.

What made you decide to apply for the role at Datel?

Datel was one of the companies that I aspired to work for based on the great feedback I’d heard from former colleagues who had gone to work there. I understood that Datel were a supportive company that looked after their staff and offered a great working environment.

What does a typical day at Datel involve for you now?

As an Account Manager, you get pulled into all types of conversations across all departments – it’s a very varied role. I am based from the Warrington office but my role requires me to visit existing and prospective client sites and have valued conversations with as many key individuals across the business as possible, from Finance, Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, Distribution, IT, and Directors.

What is the day-to-day working environment like?

Enjoyable and challenging! I’m fully supported by colleagues and members of management.

How has your role and department changed since you started, and how do you think it might change in the future?

When I started at Datel there were two Sage 200 Account Managers, and now there are seven of us! Just shows you how the Sage 200 base has grown over the last four years!

I am happy within the Account Management team, we are supported and feel more like a family than work colleagues!

What do you enjoy most about working at Datel?

The people – not just those within the Account Management team, but across the whole business. Everyone is always supportive and helpful, and nothing is too much trouble. We are all working towards a common aim and that is evident throughout the business. I am proud of the fact that I play a part in offering further efficiencies to customers’ Sage systems.
