Sage 200 signals bright future for Commhoist
Telecoms logistics company chooses Datel as partner
4th February 2022
How we communicate is ever evolving and has led to a burgeoning telecoms industry. We spoke to Sean Taylor, Finance Director at Commhoist about their recent growth and urgent need for a solution that will scale with their business.
Commhoist Ltd is a mobile telecoms logistics contractor and has been involved in every mainland UK cellular network delivery and upgrade programme since 1996 and is integral in the current 5G rollout. In 2020, Commhoist sold a portion of the company to a venture capital partner and recruited Sean to ensure their financial systems meet the demands of the new investors. ‘I’ve worked for Commhoist about 16 months now, and we have nearly doubled in size over that time. The growth rate shows no sign of slowing as 5G really starts to ramp up, so it's fairly urgent we make system upgrades now.’
Making the right choice
Commhoist has been using Sage 50 for many years and it has served the business well, but thanks to the scale of their recent growth, the old system is no longer viable as Sean explains; ‘We have another system called JMS, a job management system, handling all our operational needs, from enquiry to delivery. We need a new financial system that will integrate with JMS to avoid double entry of information, and streamline our internal processes. Along with that, the main reasons for upgrading are sophisticated analysis and the ability to scale. The different demands of working in a private equity environment mean that we have a greater need for MI and analysis than the business had previously. Sage 50 did a fine job in it’s time, but we need to move on now to keep up with the pace of change.’
Sean briefly explored other possibilities, but knew there were many benefits in sticking with Sage, staff training being an obvious one. Supported by a third party to make the right choice, Sage put Sean in touch with Datel, and after numerous discussions to understand the needs of Commhoist, Sage 200 was recommended. With Sage 200, Commhoist will benefit from many efficiencies including an API allowing project information and quotes from JMS to be pushed automatically to Sage for invoicing. A robust SQL database will provide scalability and flexible reporting will be vital as they grow.
A smooth integration
Currently in the scoping phase, Sean is pleased with the process and is complimentary of Datel. ‘Nothing but professional service so far and communication has been exactly what you would have hoped for. I've dealt with Datel before a long time ago so I didn't need references. They’re well known so we know the quality of Datel’s work, everyone does.’
It’s been a pleasure working with Sean and the team so far, and we are excited to see how this scalable solution will support Commhoist as they grow.
