At Sage Summit on 6th April 2017 Alan Simpson, Datel’s Executive Chairman was also invited to be involved in the Sage Foundation’s Big Give Live. Three UK based charities pitched to a panel of judges to be awarded £10,000 for first place, £7,000 for second place and £4,000 for third place. The money raised included donations from Datel and two other business partners.
The three charities pitching for the funds were:
-
Working Chance - an award-winning charity supporting women with convictions into sustainable, quality jobs
-
Hire a Hero - a charity that supports service leavers through the transition into civilian life
-
Pursuing Independent Paths (PIP) – a charity supporting adults with learning disabilities to achieve their potential
Alan explains what happened during Big Give Live: “Being part of the judging panel for the Sage Big Give Live was an emotional and challenging experience. All three of the charities are doing great work and it was extremely difficult for me and my fellow judges to choose the winning charity. After listening to the Dragons Den-style pitches from each of the charities, there was a lot of debate between myself and the other judges. Eventually we selected Working Chance for first place, but all of the charities were very deserving.”
The Sage Foundation is committed to transforming lives by investing time, money, expertise and technology to create sustainable social, economic and entrepreneurial opportunity in local communities around the world.
